Director of Instrumental Music
Ellen Gozion joined the First UU music staff in July 2018. Prior to her directorship, she had been a regular visiting accompanist and a collaborator with the Folk Orchestra and Family Choir, as well as one of the congregation's recent Artists-In-Residence.
Ellen has worked in Pittsburgh as a liturgical accompanist and director of music since 1995. She has been a full-time pianist for the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School since 1991. In addition to her work as a pianist, Ellen is singer of traditional ballads and a founding member of the award-winning folk trio The Early Mays (voice, banjo, harmonium, composing). She is also a creator and performer of crankies and the founder/organizer of The Pittsburgh Crankie Fest. Ellen earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
