“Torchbearers: The Story of Pittsburgh’s Freedom Fighters”, (a WQED production from 2006) will be our film for September.
The film “revisits Pittsburgh’s struggles during the so-called golden era of civil rights, and meet many of the men and women who lit the way for the generations that followed. Hosted by Chris Moore and produced by Minette Seate, Torchbearers is a celebration of lives driven by a greater purpose. “ It runs for just under an hour.
We will gather in the Schweitzer Room on Friday, September 27 at 6:15. This is a pot luck dinner, which we’ll eat while we watch the film starting at 6:30. Then we can talk together about what we’ve seen and heard.
Everyone is welcome to come, as we work to learn more about our own city’s history, and to, as the 8th Principle states, “dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.” Please remember to bring food to share and feel free to invite a friend! (For your calendar, future films will be shown on Fridays, October 25, and November 29.)
