November Humanist Group meeting: The legacy of Redlining

This meeting is co-sponsored by the Racial Justice Task Force.

Church Member and retired CMU Professor of Information Systems Randy Weinberg will speak to us on “The Legacy of Redlining”. In this lecture, based on his CMU Osher course on this topic, he investigates the original intent and subsequent consequences of the government sponsored neighborhood rating system implemented in the 1930’s. Even today, 90 years later, legacy effects remain in terms of segregation and disparities in public health, home values, environmental justice, and access to green spaces. Examples from Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods will help illustrate the experience.
