As we enter the most active time for people engaged in the November election, please help to protect the church’s nonprofit status by observing the following practices:
* In situations where you’re representing the church, or might reasonably be seen as representing the church, avoid expressing support for, and/or opposition to, any candidate running for public office. This applies to church volunteers, staff, and contractors.
* Church volunteers, staff, and contractors are free to participate in nonpartisan election activities, such as registering voters, when representing the church. “Nonpartisan” means that these activities don’t favor or oppose, or appear to favor or oppose, any candidate for public office.
* If you have any questions about whether a particular election-related activity might endanger the church’s nonprofit status, feel free to contact Treasurer Kyle Gracey in advance at kgracey@first-unitarian-pgh.org
