We are so pleased to report that we have exceeded our fundraising goal for the Ray Schinhofen Solar Array – raising over $35,000 from Members and Friends of this congregation to help support the costs of installing an array of solar energy collectors on Mason Wing roof.
This project will make a direct impact on our environment and shows our church’s support of our Seventh Principle, Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
As an advocate of social justice and of sustainability of our church building, Ray was a leader and proponent of the geothermal system and a founding member of the Green Sanctuary Committee. Through this project, Ray’s legacy will live on in perpetuity at First Unitarian Church.
Plans are on track to begin the installation of the solar array energy collectors on the Mason Wing roof. Once installed, the array will generate approximately 40,000 kilowatt hours, about one third of the church’s annual electricity use. It will reduce our carbon footprint by about 16 metric tons of CO2 per year, the equivalent of taking four cars off the road.
Thank you to everyone for your support of this very special project!
