The annual celebration of Founders Day by our Khasi Hills partners in India can inspire us to honor our own Unitarian Universalist roots, connect and nurture our community, and serve the wider world. The service will include a greeting from our Khasi Hills partners, a traditional dance from Northeast India by Pittsburgh’s Nandanik Dance Troupe, and a video featuring Khasi Hills Youth and our congregation. Nandanik Dance Troupe is a Pittsburgh-based non-profit organization that seeks to promote, propagate and preserve Indian classical dance styles in the USA. Their goal is to spread the beauty and richness of Indian dance and music so that it transcends all barriers and creates an awareness that helps to spread global harmony and understanding. Speaker Maureen Porter is a long-time member of the Khasi Hill Partnership team and represented our church on a Khasi Hills pilgrimage in 2018. She is a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh. As an anthropologist of education, she studies the social construction of “education” and situated learning in culturally-specific communities of practice.  One of her five priority contexts for the scholarship is sponsoring intercultural and international service-learning, global competence programs, and collaborative exchanges.
